The 1st year for Carp-in-4-Cancer was a 33 team competition held at Edgbaston Reservoir,
Birmingham. The winners were Ken Hayes and David Whitehouse.
On a very wet weekend June and the 1st day of a new fishing season the event
kicked off with a blast of the horn and 66 anglers all went hell for leather to
outwit the crafty carp. The going was tough as all that pressure hitting the
water at once put the fish on edge and it wasn't until a few hours had passed
that the 1st fish was caught by Ken Hayes, who went on to win the contest with
his team mate Dave Whitehouse, overall there was over 30 fish caught, alas some
of them bream, but all who fished had a great time and begged for more. The
auction and raffle proved to be a good move and well over a thousand pound was
taken from the most generous anglers in attendance, Carp-In-4-Cancer had arrived
and needed to stay so that very weekend it was decided that the next year was to
be held at Sandhurst on the Cemex holy grail of complexes, we were off and
running....
